THE Madhvani Foundation has short-listed 268 candidates for the 2008-2009 academic year scholarships. The foundation received over 1,000 applications in the fields of science, technology, commerce and medicine.

"This has not been an easy process as the quantity and quality of candidates who applied for funding has increased significantly from last year," said Henry Kyemba, the chairman of the scholarships committee.

The Muljibhai Madhvani Foundation board in 2003 set up the education trust, where it makes an annual contribution of sh450m to promote scientific and technical education.

The charity's sh450m annual contribution was the largest single annual donation by a private sector company towards education in Uganda.

Kyemba said the shortlist for the candidates for the July 24 to 28 interviews was available on the foundation's website and at the Madhvani Foundation Building on Jinja Road in Kampala.
