Madhvani gives sh340 scholarships

The Muljibhai Madhvani Foundation has given out sh340m in scholarships to 105 students to pursue university programmes this academic year.

The foundation, a charitable trust established in 1965, said in a statement recently that the beneficiaries were selected from 1,456 applicants.

"We believe that for the future prosperity of Uganda, we must join hands to unleash the potential that lies in our people through empowering Ugandans by providing scholarships to students pursuing scientific and technical education," the statement said.

It said 75% of the scholarships went to undergraduates and the rest for postgraduate courses. It also said the candidates selected come from allover Uganda with 25% of the beneficiaries coming from the north, 38% from the east, 26% from the west and 11% from the central region.
The scholarships are got from the foundation's commercial, retail and residential complex located on Plot 12/20 Jinja Road in Kampala.
