Some 301 applicants were shortlisted but only 272 appeared for interviews.
Officials stressed that the shortlist was extracted from 999 eligible applicants; 699 did not meet the required criteria. Of these 699, 66 were postgraduates and 633 were undergraduates.
The lucky students are distributed by region; 38 from the central region, 43 from the east, 41 from the west and 27 from the north. Maska district had the highest, with 13, followed by Mukono, with eight students.
The chairman of the Madhvani scholarships committee, Henry Kyemba said although the scholarship money is above last year’s by Shs 20m, the number of beneficiaries has dropped, from 175 to 149.
