Uganda: Hundreds Register for Scholarships

Hundreds of students have registered for the Madhvani Education Foundation scholarships for the 2008/2009 academic year.

The Foundation board chairman, Samuel Rutega, said selection was based on competence of the candidates, financial status of the parents and the nature and availability of the courses desired.

"We are looking for individuals who are able to perceive the path to the future of Uganda and also actively participate in the development of the country " he said.

Rutega said 75% of the scholarships were earmarked for undergraduate courses.

Disciplines for sponsorship are Agriculture, Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Actuarial Science, Architecture, Veterinary Medicine, and Commerce.

Others are Law, Hotel Management, Phar-macy, Nursing, Engineering, Food Science & Technology, Information Technology, Environment, and Medicine.
