The Zawadi Africa Educational Fund has formed a partnership with The Madhvani Foundation that will provide five university scholarships for Ugandan girls to study overseas.

In a statement released yesterday, the secretary of the Madhvani Foundation Mr S.K Iyengar announced; "In the first year of the programme in Uganda, Zawadi Africa will offer five scholarships."

He added; "Two of these will be for scholarships in computer science, ICT or computer engineering sponsored by Google to study in South Africa."

Mr Iyengar said that applications for these areas of study should be submitted by August 15 while the other three general scholarships meant for institutions in the United States of America have their deadline on September 1.

According to the statement, in order to apply, the candidate needs to send a brief letter of introduction with their name, a copy of their A-level certificate, desired area of study, and must write a statement of intent indicating why they believe they are the best candidates for the scholarship.

The scholarships will cover all academic costs (tuition, room and board) plus annual travel, and most living expenses. The Zawadi Africa Educational Fund is a US based non-profit organisation that secures scholarships and covers startup costs for academically gifted but financially disadvantaged young women with strong leadership potential to enable them to pursue a college education.
